Little Rock Desegregation

Over the last few years and especially in the last few months I have listened to a lot of talk about the Pulaski County School Desegregation Settlement. In order to try and get a better understanding of where the state and the school districts are on this issue I drove to Little Rock yesterday afternoon to sit in on the Desegregation Litigation Oversight Committee meeting. Co Chairman Robert Thompson ran a good meeting and I now know more than I did. I have the impression that most of us legislators would like to stop paying the settlement so that those dollars could be used elsewhere. To get to that point we need action from the federal judicial system. There is frustration that we cannot seem to expedite that action. I hope to be able to attend the next meeting of this committee as I study the issue.
