Even though it was very, very warm at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon a big crowd showed up for the open house/dedication at the new Howard Memorial Hospital. Senator Blanche Lincoln gave a short talk congratulating the community on working together to accomplish the new hospital facility. It is a magnificent facility and we in Howard County are very excited and looking forward to moving into and beginning to use it next week. There are so many important players involved in moving us from the idea stage to completion that I don't want to try to list them all. However, Ray Blakely, the hospital's board and foundation board, County Judges Max Tackett and Kevin Smith and the Quorum Court all deserve a special thanks for the vision and courage to believe that in this day of rural hospitals closing and barely getting by that we can support a new facility.
We hope to begin seeing patients in the new hospital on the 21st of July. There are still a few technical and light mechanical issues to resolve but I am hopeful it will all work out.
