My First Committee Meeting in the Senate

This morning marked my first "official" committee meeting. I have sat in on the Joint Budget Committee and expect to continue attending Budget. This morning the Senate Transportation, Technology, and Legislative Affairs Committee met. I am glad to be serving on the committee under the chairmanship of Senator John Paul Capps. I served with him in the House and know him to be a fine man and he will be a great chairman. I will learn from watching him.

There are several bills assigned to the committee that are generating great interest. Motorcycle helmets, primary seat belts, and cell phone bills are among those that have folks stirred up. None of the sponsors brought those bills to committee this morning. We did pass a bill that will allow, if you pass the measure, a new issue of those highway bonds as the old bonds are paid off.

I continue to hear from many of you on the tobacco tax issue. Thanks for taking the time to contact me.
