Mother and I had the opportunity tonight to attend the Sevier County Alzheimer's Alliance and Crystal Falls Rehab's fundraiser/educational program on Alzheimer. My friend and colleague Representative Steve Cole was the emcee of the event. The featured speaker of the evening was Coach Frank Broyles. Before his turn to speak I was looking at him and thinking of how old and tired he looked and then when he stood up and turned it on he was incredible. He demonstrated a passion for the subject that came from having spent 4 years with his wife Barbara as they fought and learned to live through Alzheimer. His talk was touching and important to those who have loved ones who are struggling. Frank and his daughter Betsy had driven down from Fayetteville tonight to support the efforts in Sevier County. He has written a book on caregiving that I imagine is worth the time to read.
It was a good reminder that we all need to be thankful for our loved ones and to take care of them no matter what. Mother and I very much enjoyed the evening. For more information on Alzheimer's the Alzheimer's Association has a lot of information on their website.
