In a ruling that has huge implications for Southwest Arkansas a federal judge denied a preliminary injunction intended to halt the ground application of chicken litter as a fertilizer in the Illinois River watershed.
U.S. District Judge Frizzell's decision may have an impact on the lawsuit filed by the Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmonson against the state's poultry companies. A trial is scheduled for November 2009.
The poultry industry is an important part of the Arkansas economy and it is especially important here in Southwest Arkansas. Many people,both in poultry plants and poultry farms, make their living in the poultry industry.
