I left Nashville early yesterday morning headed to Little Rock for a full day. The drive was very wet and rainy but not too bad.
The Personnel Committee was hearing a new pay classification plan for state employees. The information can be found on the Department of Finance's website by clicking here. It is certainly a step in the right direction.
The Silver Haired Legislators were in town yesterday and today. Those from my district were Oris & Carolyn Thornton, Vivian Wright, Jean Killian, Betty Williamson, and Shirley Reed. They represented Hempstead, Howard and Sevier counties. I could not find any delegates from Pike or Polk county. I visited with them at lunch and then that afternoon I met them at the Governor's Mansion for a nice meal. It was the first time that I have been in the Mansion in a number of years. Last time I was there the tent was still in the backyard for large gatherings. I always enjoy the Silver Haired Legislature and almost always some of their ideas make it into law. It is good to help us focus our attention on our older population and their needs.
I wound up the evening at Doe's where a fundraiser to help erase some of the debt Steve Cole has remaining from his election was held. I don't know how much money he raised but there was a goodly number in attendance and it all seemed to go well. I was back in Nashville about 10:00 p.m. after a productive day in Little Rock.
