Ketty Lester Recognition Ceremony

This afternoon a good crowd of people gathered in the library auditorium at UACCH to recognize a southwest Arkansas native who left here and was very successful.
(This is copied from the program) The great Ketty Lester has had a career that encompasses success in music, television, film and stage productions. Her cover of Dick Haynes' 1945 "Love Letters" went to number five in pop and number tow on the R&B Billboard Charts in the spring of 1962.
Ketty Lester was born Revoyda Frierson on August 16, 1934 here in Hope, AR. She was one of 15 children born into a farmers family. After winning a scholarship in 1955 she moved to California and attended San Francisco City College majoring in Nursing. Lester sang in church and school choir and put her natural talent to wok. Through her performing at the Purple Onion Club, her talent became recognized by others in the industry and helped her to continue to advance her musical career.
She was also successful in television in household favorites such as Little House on the Prairie as Hester Sue Terhune and soap opera Days of Our Lives as Helen Grant.
This is only a partial listing of the success Lester has achieved.
I am proud to have been a part of recognizing Ms. Lester. She is a sincere, nice lady and I wish her the best of luck.
The auditorium was very warm but the crowd was engaged and seemed to enjoy the program.
