Last night I had a really good time waiting tables at the Governor's Mansion at a banquet fundraiser for Hunger. Mrs. Beebe and the Governor were most gracious hosts of the event. Senator Broadway and I served the table that was purchased by the Arkansas Children's Hospital. The rest of the tables were served by House members and Mrs. Beebe helped Speaker of the House Robbie Wills at his table. The food was good, I enjoyed visiting with those at our table and Shane is my good friend, I am always happy to work with him. It seemed to be a very successful event and I look forward to next years. Representative Kathy Webb and her crew of volunteer chefs, legislators and Hunger staffers did really good work putting it all together.
This morning I headed over to Hope for the groundbreaking for the Southwest Arkansas Education Cooperative's new building. It will be constructed on the grounds at UACCH and will be a good addition to the campus. The fine folks at the Co Op deserve a new facility to work from and I am confident that they will put it to good use. Lindy Franks, Director SWAEC, and her staff along with the City, UACCH, USDA and others worked hard to put the partnership together and make the building a reality.
From there I headed to the Hope Chamber of Commerce's coffee. I always buy a Watermelon Festival shirt and I was glad to see that the shirts were in and available for sale. As is my practice, I bought a Scrapper orange (not quite Scrapper Orange but close enough) T Shirt. Turns out my shirt was the first one that they sold this year. The Watermelon Festival is August 6th-8th. Go ahead and mark your calendar and make plans to attend. Even though it is usually pretty warm it is always a good time and this year their special entertainment is Tracy Byrd. See you there.
