Amendment 3 - Lottery

There is much discussion in the news right now about the legislature's job of instituting the lottery that was passed in the general election in November. I wanted to understand how my counties voted on the amendment so I went to the Secretary of State's website and looked up the vote (Click here to link to the information)

Hempstead County For 4,155 Against 2,819 For 59.58%
Howard County For 2,399 Against 2,225 For 51.9 %
Pike County For 2,047 Against 1,775 For 53.56%
Polk County For 4,377 Against 2,977 For 59.52%
Sevier County For 2,353 Against 2,008 For 56.51%
Statewide For 648,122 Against 383,467 For 62.83%

When totaled up the counties that I represent voted 56.51% for the lottery with Hempstead County showing the greatest support and Howard County the least support.

Making sure that the lottery is done correctly and efficiently will be very important. We will want the maximum amount of dollars going into scholarships. Any thoughts you have on the lottery and the scholarships will be appreciated.
