Meeting with DHS then UACCH

John Selig, Director of the Department of Human Services, was in Texarkana today. Several legislators (Representative Bruce Maloch, Representative Steve Harrelson, Senator Horn & I) visited with our County Administrators and other DHS personnel. It was an informative meeting and I enjoyed meeting and hearing John's thoughts on the upcoming budget and their revenue needs. I recall John saying that DHS takes care of about 1,300,000 people with a staff of approximately 7,200.

Chancellor Chris Thomason and Vice Chancellor Jerald Barber were waiting for me when I made it to Hope. We spent about an hour going over their budget concerns and needs with them. They were helping me to get a better understanding of UACCH financially and of the makeup of the student population. I appreciate their taking the time from their day to get me up to speed. UACCH is phenomenally well supported by the community.
