ADEQ Public Hearing re: Draft Air Permit at Turk Plant

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality was in Hope at UACCH last night conducting a hearing on AEP-SWEPCO's air permit application for the Turk Power Plant. There was an organized effort opposing the permit - almost entirely composed of people from out of the area. I recall only one "local" speaking against the plant other than the legal counsel representing some of the hunting club members. The plant is hugely popular in our area. I support and we need and want the jobs and we need and want to continue to have plenty of electricity to support our growth and to fill our needs.
It is not too late to provide a comment on the permit application. Written comments will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on September 23, 2008. They should be mailed to Air Permits Branch, ADEQ, 5301 Northshore Drive, North Little Rock, AR 72118.
