Watermelon Festival

I just arrived back in Nashville from Hope. The Watermelon Festival is going strong over there. I helped other political types (Congressman Mike Ross, Governor Mike Beebe, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel & his daughter Emma Grace, State Senator Jim Hill, State Representatives Steve Harrelson, Bubba Powers & Monte Davenport, & Sheriff Jerry Crane) with watermelon slicing, I bought a hundred pound watermelon at auction, shook lots of hands and then participated in the politicians watermelon eating contest. As is customary, Vice-Mayor David Johnson of Hope destroyed all of us amateur watermelon eaters.

The crowd seemed good and it did not seem quite as hot as last year. After the watermelon eating contest we headed over to UACCH for a quick sandwich luncheon hosted by Chancellor Chris Thomason and AT&T. My friends former State Representative and soon to be Hempstead County Clerk Sandra Rodgers and soon to be Hempstead County Treasurer Katherine Rowe were at the luncheon.

I appreciate Mark Keith and all the many volunteers who work so hard to put this 32nd Watermelon Festival on. There are untold hours involved in planning and hosting the event. Thanks to all!
