This weekend marked the beginning of gun deer season which meant that I headed up to Hatfield to hunt. I normally go up on Friday but I had the opportunity to welcome the National Gospel Singing Convention to Nashville on Friday evening and the Scrappers were playing football and I had to drop in on the game.
The picture above was from this morning after breakfast. That is Randy and three of his daughters - Mickala (on the right), Bob in his lap and you can just barely see Nikki's head between Bob and Randy. The weather was very pleasant, not really good hunting weather but nice weather to be outside.
No - I did not get a deer. I did have a doe run within about 30 or 40 feet of me Saturday evening close to dark. As always, the food is just about the best part of camp. Fried deer steak last night, with fried potatoes and biscuits and gravy - mighty good. This mornings breakfast was good also. My friend Bob brought me a jar of their homemade pear preserves that are so good. I did share but I tried to keep them hidden. Lastly, the wisdom and the stories told around the campfire are great fun.
