Veterans Day 2009 at Dierks School

Dierks High School ChoirGrades 4-6
Grades K-3
Principal Holly Cotheran invited me to be the speaker at the Dierks School 2009 Veterans Day program. It turned out to be quite a program. I am very impressed with the effort that had been put into the program. Foremost, there was quite a crowd of veterans in attendance and in some cases widows or grandchildren stood in for those veterans who have gone on. Holly had a short description of each veterans service that she read when she introduced each one. It was really very moving. The entire school attended the program and the singing was great fun. I could tell a lot of time had been dedicated to teaching the songs and the hand movements.
I talked about the beginning of Veterans Day and some of our traditions and I encouraged those young people to be thankful for those who have served and who serve now and to pray for them, for our country and our leaders. I also told them that my Dad, Herschell, was a Marine in the Korean war and that he never really got over it.
Thank God for those who have served and who do serve and I encourage you to pray for them and our country every day.
