Saturday was a busy day. It started pretty early at the Watermelon Festival. The crowd appeared to be good, the morning was warm but there was a nice breeze from the South. As is tradition all of us political types gathered for the "politically correct watermelon eating contest". Also as is tradition Vice Mayor David Johnson of Hope won the contest. However, Sheriff Jerry Crane ran a very close second. I always see people I know and I usually make some new friends at the Watermelon Festival and I always get to eat a lot of good, cold watermelon.
For the evening, I headed up to Arkadelphia to the Clinton Day Banquet. My friends Representative Johnnie Roebuck and Senator Percy Malone had invited me to attend and I had friends from Pike and Sevier County in attendance. I enjoyed visiting everyone and managed to sneak out a little early and get home at a reasonable hour.
All in all it was a good day, I was tired when I arrived home but I had enjoyed the opportunity to make some new friends and to visit with a lot of old friends.
