The tornadoes have dominated my week - or it might be more accurate to say that trying to insure that those who have suffered loss are receiving all of the services that their State and Federal government should provide to those in need of help. Those state agencies that are actively involved in the disaster have tried hard to provide help where needed. The leader of all the efforts has been the Governor's office. I really appreciate Governor Beebe, Lamar Davis and Jon Moran's efforts to keep me in the loop and to help with funds and expediting help where needed. I am not going to try to list all of those who are involved because I am confident that I will leave someone out.
It does appear that by Monday we may have adequate water available in Dierks. Mayor Terry Mounts and his crew have been on that day and night since the storm blew a large part of their treatment plant away. We hope to have some determination of individual assistance from FEMA so that the many many people who need housing can get some help. There are families in Sevier County and Polk County in desperate need of a place to live. The citizens and local elected officials in the Mena area have done incredible work at cleaning up and trying to keep people safe and informed. Many thanks to the hundreds of volunteers and organizations in the area helping - the outpouring of love and prayers is incredible.
I was in Hope last night for the Black Historical Society's cornbread and bean supper. I had some cracklings cornbread and some navy beans and bought a nice pound cake to snack on all weekend. I always enjoy seeing my friends in the Society. The photo below is the serving line at the supper.
