NEWS IN BRIEF Electric power usage breaks firm’s record Southwestern Electric Power Co. set an all-time record Monday for electricity demand, with customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas seeking a load of 4,951 megawatts. The mark was set at 5 p.m. with temperature near its Shreveport headquarters at 102 degrees. Calls for conservation measures were not required, spokesman Scott McCloud said Tuesday. The previous record of 4,924 megawatts was set on Aug. 14, 2007, when the temperature reached 104 degrees. SWEPCO serves 471,000 customers systemwide, including 113,000 in western Arkansas.
