These tips came in a newsletter from one of my insurance companies this morning. Seems timely and I thought I would share them with you.
10 Tips for Better Fuel Efficiency
1) Follow the recommended maintenance schedule for your vehicle.
2) Make sure tires are properly inflated as this can increase mpg by 3.3%.
3) Remove excess weight and luggage/utility racks. Every 100 lbs. = 2% increase.
4) Only use cruise control on flat terrain. Use on hilly terrain will decrease gas mileage.
5) Keeping your car washed and waxed improves the aerodynamics which can increase fuel economy by 7%.
6) Avoid excessive idling. This only wastes gas.
7) Open windows on the highway actually create drag, so using the AC is a better option.
8) Combine your errands. Several short trips can use twice as much gas and when the engine is cold, it uses more fuel.
9) Don’t drive aggressively. Drive the speed limit, slow down well in advance of your stopping
point and take off at slow to medium pace.
10) Drive in the highest gear possible to maximize your fuel economy.
*These tips can lead to a 37% increase in fuel economy and more money in your pocket!
